Will I owe taxes on my rebate amount next year? What if this year my situation changes and that means my rebate amount should be less?

For most filers, says Luscombe, this year’s rebate will appear as a simple gift from the government. The rebate amounts are tax-free.

But filers will have to reconcile any money they receive this year when they file their 2008 returns.

“It harks back to the 2001 situation when we got the new 10 percent bracket and got an advance check for that. Then on next return had to account for it,” says Luscombe. “It’s expected to be that way this time.”

The 2008 tax forms should have a line for the new credit. When calculating taxes next year, taxpayers will have to subtract what they got as a rebate check the previous summer.

“Some people might think that’s unfair,” says Luscombe, “but they got the money, and they got it early.”

One thing taxpayers won’t have to worry about is giving back any excess if their 2008 taxes show that the advance this year was actually more than they should have received.

“If it turns out that credit on your 2008 return is greater, you get to take that additional amount,” says Luscombe. “If it’s lesser than what you got in 2007, you don’t have to refund that back to government.” The law says the IRS can’t recover the extra payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008 tax bill.

Greetings reader :) :)

Thank you for your time.

I would like to ask if you could recommend a really good book on tanks generally, another book on WW2 tanks and yet another book on German tanks specifically. I looked through Amazon and there are tons. So I was hoping for the better judgement of one of you tank enthusiasts in naming books of that nature :) I believe your personal connection to the topic of tanks would have given you greater insight into this field that would be greatly beneficial. Its for a good friend’s birthday gift =D

***Please note
It would be preferable if the book you name is not too wordy with more pictures and facts and less lengthy and overly detailed actual history.

Thank you so much for your kind help :D I appreciate it very much :)

Best regards,

My fellow citizens: I am placed here humiliated today by the task before us, been thankful for the confidence that you have granted, kind of the sacrifices taken by our ancestors. I thank for to president Bush by its service our nation, as well as the generosity and the cooperation that it has demonstrated through this transition. Forty and four Americans now have taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during adminisered extreme unction to crescents of the prosperity and immovable waters of La Paz. However, the oath is taken from time to time in the middle of collecting clouds and the storms that rage. At the moment, America has continued not simply due to the ability or the vision of those in high position, but because people we have continued being faithful the ideals of ours forbearers, and truth to our documents of foundation. It has so been. So it must be with this generation of Americans. That we are in means of the crisis is well now understood. Our nation is in the war, against a far-reaching network of the violence and hatred. Our economy is debilitated seriously, a consequence of the avarice and the irresponsibility from some, but also our collective lack to make decision difficult and to prepare the nation for a new age. The homes are had lost; slope of the works; the businesses shuttered. Our medical care is too expensive; our schools fail too many; and every day brings additional evidence that the ways that we used energy consolidate our adversaries and threaten our planet. These are the indicators of the crisis, according to data and to statistics. Less mensurable but ninguÌ less deep n is to undermine of the confidence through our earth–a fear that regaña that America’ the declination of s is inevitable, that the following generation must lower seen his. I today say to you that the challenges that we face up are true. They are serious and they are many. They will not be solved easily or in a short handspan of the time. But this knows, America–they will be solved. In this day, we collected because we have chosen hope on fear, the unit of the intention on conflict and the discord. In this day, we come to proclaim an end to the small offenses and the false promises, spent recriminations and dogmas for which they have strangled far too much of length our policy. We continue being a young nation, but in the words of the writing, the time has come to put infantile things to a side. The time has come to reaffirm our alcohol that held; in order to choose our better history; to the transport that precious gift, that noble idea, fleeting ignition of the generation to the generation: the God-given promise that everything is equal, everything is free, and everything deserves an occasion to persecute its complete measurement of happiness. In the reaffirmation of the greatness of our nation, we understand that the greatness never is given. It must be won. Our trip never has been one of short cuts or establishment for less. It has not been the trajectory for faint-hearted–for that they prefer leisure over work, or it looks for only the pleasures of wealth and the fame. Something, has been risk-takers, the authors, the manufacturers of things–some celebrated but more often dark men and women in its work, that has taken to us upon the trajectory towards long prosperity and of the freedom, rough. For us, they sprinted upon its few worldly possessions and traveled through the oceans in search of a new life. For us, they worked in operation factories and they placed the west; it held latigazo of the whip and plowed the hard Earth. For us, they fought and they died, in places like concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn. Repeatedly these men and women fought and sacrificed and worked until their hands were crude so that it can be that we live one better life. They saw America like greater than the sum of our individual ambitions; majors that all the differences of the birth or abundance or faction. This one is the trip that we continued today. We continue being the most prosperous, more long-range Earth nation. Our workers are not ninguÌ n less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are not ninguÌ less inventive n, our goods and services ninguÌ less necessary n that they were the past week or the past month or the past year. Our capacity continues being nondisminuída. But our time of the right light tap, to protect close interests and to put of disagreeable decisions–that time has happened surely. Beginning today, we must be taken, remove the dust extinguished, and begin the work to remake America again. For throughout we watched, we are work there that will become. The state of our economy requests the action, in elm and express, and we will act–not only to create new works, but to put a new foundation for the growth. We will construct the ways and the bridges, the electrical grids and the digital lines that feed our commerce and tie to us together. We will recover
science to its legitimate place, and handled technology’ s is asked to raise healthcare’ the quality of low s and its cost. We will harness the sun and winds and the ground to supply of fuel our cars and to work our factories. And we will transform our schools and universities and universities to cover the demands of a new age. All this that we can do. All this that we will do. Now, there is something ask the scale of our ambitions–who suggests our system cannot tolerate too many great plans. Their memories are short. For them they have forgotten what it has made this country already; what free men and women can reach when the imagination is assembled to the common intention, and to the necessity to the value. What the cynical ones cannot understand is that the Earth has changed of position underneath him–that the aged political discussions that have consumed to us during as much time apply not more. The question that we do is not today if our government is too great or too small, bu
but works–if it helps the families to find a jobs in a decent wage, taken care of that can be allowed, a dignifica retirement that. Where it is the answer yes, we preput ourselves to move advanced. Where answer is not it, the programs will finish. And those of us who handle public’ the dollars of s will be carried out to the account–in order to happen wisely, it reforms the bad habits, and it does our business considering day–because then it only can we recovered the vital one we trusted between people and her government. Nor it is the question before us if the market is a force for good or Illinois. Its energy to generate abundance and to extend the freedom is incomparable, but this crisis has remembered to us that without a vigilant eye, the market can rotate of control–the nation cannot prosper of length when it favors only the prosperous one. The success of our economy has always depended not just as large as our gross internal product, but of the reach of our prosperity; in th
the capacity to extend opportunity to each prepared heart–not outside charity, but because it is the safest route to our communal property. As far as our common defense, we rejected like false the option between our security and our ideals. Our founders, face up with the dangers that we can hardly imagine to us, made a letter to assure the State Right and the rights of man, a letter extended themselves by the blood of generations. Those ideals still ignite the world, and we will not give them for above for expedience’ reason for s. And so to the rest of people and governments who are watching today, of the most magnificent capitals to the small village where my father was born: it knows that America is a friend of each nation and each man, woman, and boy whom a future of La Paz and the dignity looks for, and we are ready to take once again. It remembers that generations first faced up underneath fascism and of Comunism not hardly with the missiles and the tanks, but with the robust al
alliances and the convictions holding. They understood that our energy cannot only protect to us, nor it gives us right to do please like us. In place, they knew that our energy grows with its prudent use; our security emanates of justness of our cause, of the force of our example, the qualities of weather of humility and the lodging. We are the ones in charge of this inheritance. Directed by these principles once again, we can solve those new threats that even demand greater effort–even greater cooperation and understanding between the nations. We will begin to leave person in charge from Iraq to its people, and forged a laborious peace in Afghanistan. With the old woman friendly and the previous enemies, we will work untiring to diminish the nuclear threat, and behind rolled the phantom of a planet that is warmed up. We will not apologize by our way of life, nor will doubt in its defense, and for that they try to advance his aims inducing terror and killing innocents, tenth you now
that our alcohol is the more strong and it cannot be broken; you cannot surpass to us, and we will defeat to him. For us we know that our inheritance of I mend is a force, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Hindu Muslims, Jews and–and non-believers. Each language and culture we formed, extracted of each end of this earth; and because we have proven the bitter rubbish of the civil war and the segregation, and we have emerged from

HK’s GDP, GDP/capita, business environment/opportunities, Chinese language ability, knowledge on China, freedom of expressions/press/protests/gatherings, ease in setting up companies/doing business, flexibilities, people’s persistence/hardworking, long working hours, gift’s investments in infrastrutures, transparents of the govt and policies, degree of govt in listening to its people, willingness of HK’s media to report on even the most devastated events……..so forth are surely much greater in Hong Kong than in Singapore, yet since its return to China, Hong Kong is getting less and less mentioned in the international arena.

World prominent leaders like the US President has visited Singapore few times in recent years, giving keynote speeches there which helped to draw tremendous of worldwide publicity/promotions on the small city nation. The US President has not stepped foot in Hong Kong since its return. At the same time and quite on the contrary, certain media and spokesmen inside the mainland time and again deliberately downplay or attack on HK’s success particularly the bald headed Commentator, Mr Yuen Chi San of the Phoenix TV who talks more like a leftest of the Central Govt spokesman, with an intention to inform people in the mainland that the gap between the 2 places is not as threatening nor as big as one would have imagined.

Also many foreingers living outside of China eg those appearing on here are confused about HK’s status, some even thought HK is just another communist city like Shanghai or Beijing. For those that have been living in HK before and after ‘97 the sovereignty handover would agree that HK’s governing, systems, responsiveness to citizens’ concerns including cleaniliness of streets, plantations, freedom of press and expressions, business and job opportunities, govt investments and work etc etc are much better now than before.
correction above, “gift’s” investments in infrastrutures should read “govt’s”.
Serious answers/analysis highly appreciated.
Elena S, things arent as simple as you imagine out in the political world. Don has correctly pointed out that the competition between Hong Kong and Singapore is in reality competitions between the 2 forces, ie US and China acting behind. In case you dont know, Singapore had its systems borrowed from HK after the country was set up back in the 60s. Like China of today, Sing dispatched a lot of its civil servants to go to HK in the 70s and early 80s and to learn HK’s govt systems and so forth. HK’s ICAC, HKTDC, HKTB, Housing Authority etc are all being copied by the Sing. government.

Culture, Not Biology, Underpins Math Gender Gap: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/06/090601182655.htm

According to the article: “For more than a century, the notion that females are innately less capable than males at doing mathematics, especially at the highest levels, has persisted in even the loftiest circles.”

What did the study find: “Now, however, in an analysis of contemporary data published June 1 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison report that the primary cause for the gender disparity in math performance at all levels is culture, not biology.”

“It’s not an innate difference in math ability between males and females,” says Janet Mertz, a UW-Madison professor of oncology and one of the authors of the article that analyzes and summarizes recent data on math performance at all levels in the United States and internationally. “There are countries where the gender disparity in math performance doesn’t exist at either the average or gifted level. These tend to be the same countries that have the greatest gender equality.”

So could more gender equality in the US finally close the math gender gap, once and for all?

The Most Fit Choice
Introduction/Overview of Institutions
The act of choosing an appropriate college that suits the needs of an individual is a very ambiguous yet tremendously important process that those striving ahead must go through. As times go by more and more options are becoming available for the public making it more difficult for one to settle quickly and smoothly at an institution but also presenting further opportunities to narrow down one’s choices and figure out the most ideal institution to attend. Among the myriad of post secondary academic establishments across the world, Stanford University and University of California, Davis caught my attention in a much exalted manner. Both of these institutions are very well known for their medical programs and specific criteria of admission along with many other important aspects. And although each university differs greatly from the other in areas such as tuition and enrollment, they still have many things in common such as their campus environment and extracurricular activities. Yet with all their superb aspects and minor personal flaws, both candidates turn out to be an excellent institution with many wonderful benefits across the path for any student looking into them. In the following passages Stanford University and UC Davis will be evaluated and compared against each other in various fields of interest ranging from location to tuition and financial aid.

The Information and Findings
Location and campus environment are very important factors that should be considered when deciphering through different college choices. For the residents of California, Stanford University and UC Davis are both fine choices to consider attending, for they are both located in California with not much more than a few hours drive in between and to cities all across California. According to their website, “Stanford is located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of the Silicon Valley…with an 8,180 acres reach from the rural foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the bustling Stanford shopping center in Palo Alto,” a description deserving much approval as far as beauty and natural scenery go. In contrast, UC Davis settles within the core of the Central Valley and is close to the San Francisco bay area as well as downtown Sacramento which holds the State Capital and many other eventful state businesses (“UC Davis”). And regarding one’s personal interests, this is important to consider since some may be more in favor of nature than industry. The institutions are alike however in the fact that their actual campuses are both in small town suburban areas, an aspect that presents a question of transportation (“College Board”). Stanford is a campus in which the most popular manner of commuting lies in biking (“Stanford”). There is even a mile long, palm tree lined entrance to the enormous campus that branches off into seventy eight diverse residential factories, over thirty libraries and a countless amount of even more beautiful campus buildings (“Stanford”). In addition to biking, and the campus’ exceeding of 12,000 bicycle parking spaces, Stanford also offers a shuttle system and Zipcar (“Stanford”). These are very beneficial characteristics when considering such a large campus. But on the smaller side, UC Davis is also an institution in which biking is of the highest popularity when it comes to commuting around campus to the many noted establishments such as an arboretum and an equestrian center (“UC Davis”). On the subject of housing, while Stanford offers a profuse amount of options ranging from coed dorms to language and ethnic themed houses, UC Davis, justifiably doesn’t have as many choices being merely a 5,200 acre campus (The Princeton Review). Stanford however, being the highly prestigious private university that it is, understandably comes with more and better options for its students, whereas UC Davis, although still highly respected, doesn’t offer the same quality or amount of housing or campus benefits as Stanford. These are essentials to one’s vital consideration of institutions regarding campus environment and location.
In addition to geography and campus climate, admissions and requirements are also very ponderable concepts for a student to look into. As far as competition goes, there is no question as to the fact that Stanford exceeds a myriad of institutions across the nation in the area of acceptance. The average GPA of the most recent year’s statistics of acceptance was 3.75 and higher, not to mention that 91% of the admitted students were in the top 10% of their class and achieved very high honorable scores in a range of 660-760 on sections of standardized testing (“College Board”). Such students deserve the utmost accreditation when it comes to approval, and being more or less of the minority, are accepted by Stanford on very strict terms. These requisites that Stanford looks into range from personal qualities to the rigor of one’s secondary school record (The Princeton Review). But on a more compassionate level, Stanford cares more about a student’s success in a rigorous course rather than the amount of them that they took (“Stanford”). In contrast, UC Davis doesn’t demand the same level of success among students and their process of admission is much more simpler seeing as to the fact that students merely have to meet one out of three sets of eligibility requirements (“UC Davis”). In fact, out of the 22,333 students who applied to Stanford last year, only 11% were admitted and 67% were enrolled (The Princeton Review). And in comparison to UC Davis, these statistics immensely differ in quantity. In 2007 UC Davis admitted 68% of their 32,635 applicants and enrolled a mere 25% of them (The Princeton Review). The percentages of acceptance and enrollment between the two schools depict the very fact that those who qualify for a more prestigious and difficult institution to get into are much more determined and driven to ultimately attend the specific college of their desires and needs, whereas those who apply to a more broad amount of colleges simply to widen their options and are less qualified for prominent universities act more leniently and not as ambitious in their decision to attend a particular school.
Each individual contemplating their college needs is relatively obligated to pay close attention to the degrees and academic programs offered by their institutions. And while almost all known institutions offer the basic Bachelors, Doctoral, Masters and other degrees, Stanford and UC Davis have many special study options. Both universities offer selections like double major programs, honors programs, and independent study internships, aspects important to look into considering the fact that both schools are very prestigious in their medical programs (The Princeton Review). According to their website, Stanford is very determined to fostering skilled and successful medical practitioners, for “candidates who have demonstrated to the satisfaction of their department or school substantial scholarship [and have a] high attainment in a particular field of knowledge and ability to do independent research and present the results…” are granted highly esteemed degrees in a vast range of medical programs. Not far behind lays UC Davis with four honorable colleges of study ranging from biological sciences to engineering, and five different professional schools to choose from (“UC Davis”). Among Stanford’s seven distinct and highly impressive schools lies their School of Medicine which offers over 29 diverse areas of specific medical study ranging anywhere from psychiatry to neurosurgery (“Stanford”). And UC Davis, also being a predominant institution of medicine offers over 26 distinct areas of medical study (“UC Davis”). This displays the fact that both schools attain many options of education in the medical field all of which are highly respected and rigorously taken out. However while UC Davis is one of the most major medical institutions noted across the nation like Stanford, Stanford holds the honor of having a much more ample amount of prestigious study in many different fields as well. These characteristics are very important for a student to look into when considering what school to attend based on their academic needs.
On the subject of extracurricular activities, one may not consider them to be very crucial to their ultimate selection if they don’t happen to be an athlete or very active in clubs, however, sports and student organizations truly do play a rather important role. Brandon Barrette, a graduate currently attending UC Davis suggests the fact that it is a good idea to “get involved [in activities] when you are an undergrad. It’s a great way to make friends and great stress relief!” And while one may not believe this to be entirely important or true upon college consideration, it is undeniably beneficial to know that one has so many options for extracurricular activities. UC Davis offers 26 different men’s and women’s sports teams including a vast variety of intramural traditional team sports along with many nontraditional activities as well (“UC Davis”). In comparison, Stanford offers over 21 different sports teams ranging from football to water polo (“Stanford”). And while both schools are closely related in sports, Stanford offers many different summer sport camps and recreational summer clubs and programs in which some are conveniently, not exclusive to Stanford students (“Stanford”). Having sports offered at a school is important even if one knows that they definitely won’t be participating as an athlete, for knowing that there are all these games to be played and competitions to be fought in gives a student the comfortable assurance that there will be something major to rally around campus, something to keep them excited for their years to come. And besides sports, both schools offer a plethora of clubs and student organizations. Stanford offers 28 esteemed sororities and fraternities along with a diverse range of creative art programs and academic clubs (“Stanford”). Similarly, UC Davis has over 364 registered organizations and 49 sororities and fraternities along with 50 religious organizations and an honor society (The Princeton Review). This suggests that both schools believe that extracurricular activities are rather important and necessary enough to include as a major field of activity among their institutions in harmony with their output of education, an aspect worthy of consideration when it comes to personal interests regarding one’s level of rigorous academic focus.
As all the mentioned aspects of college features are to a certain extent, equally important, one of the most predominant factors that students look into when choosing their post secondary school is tuition and financial aid. In all probability, not every family can support their child financially when it comes to college. And not to mention, inevitably, prices and difficulties are simply rising as time goes on. But due to such fate, more help is becoming available for students all over the nation through means of scholarships, grants and loans and whatnot. Last year Stanford’s total price for tuition and other fees such as room and board and books and supplies was at a high $51,430 per year (“Stanford”). UC Davis on the other hand, peaked at nearly less than half of Stanford, at a total of $25,754 (“UC Davis”). At first glace, this suggests that Stanford has a lot more to offer through its institution than UC Davis, however from what has been mentioned, both schools are very close in the things they present. Yet there are many ways that a student can financially support themselves as well. Stanford in fact, has special programs that provide tuition grant awards to students based on their financial need and high school status (“Stanford”). Its process of granting financial aid becomes ultimately very beneficial for, students can are fairly judged on their household income and can usually receive the majority of what they are expected to pay through academic yearly earnings, federal and state grants, and university scholarships, things of which are gifted aid and do not need to be paid back (“Stanford”). And UC Davis, although not coming with nearly the same price tag as Stanford, has many financial aid options as well. UC Davis offers campus wide scholarships in which students apply for with simple high school qualifications and are very likely to receive; the school is even very personal and offers specific scholarships such as the Iranian Alumni Association Scholarship that supports students needing financial and of Iranian descent (“UC Davis”). Based on Peterson’s website of colleges and universities, the average indebtedness a student has upon graduation at Stanford is about $16,728 and at UC Davis is $14,372. And with the knowledge that Stanford has a much heftier charge, the fact that those figures don’t differ much suggests that Stanford is a lot more efficient in granting students with enough aid to support them more proficiently throughout their years than UC Davis. In fact Stanford’s average percent of financial need met among students was at 100%, while UC Davis’ was at 77% (“Colleges and Universities”). This concept carries much importance in the long run, knowing that a student could receive a relatively better and far more prestigious education at one institution than another, while still reasonably spending the same amount of money.
The Significance of the Findings/Conclusion
The facts and analysis discussed above have come to be really compelling in my opinion in relation to how important it is to know what I want out of academics. It opened my eyes to realizing against the stereotype that all colleges merely want profit from their consumers. I became a lot more open minded after performing my research, realizing that an institution with a lot less prestige can and usually is almost or just as beneficial, as in I can still receive a wonderful education anchored towards my goals from a place that may not be as large or as prominent. My confidence level also rose up quite a bit, resting assured that so far I have undeniably exceeded college expectations and met most standards. This suggests that all I have to do is keep going on the same track to success to achieve my goals regarding attending college. All in all however, I still believe that Stanford University is a better institution as far as my options go. I feel that in attending Stanford I will be placing myself on a much higher level of success and subsequently furthering and improving my chances of becoming all that I can be career wise. The details of admission and competition among both schools that I found, made me realize how important it was to peak myself in a well balanced schedule in high school and to thrive in everything I do. Before conducting my research, I didn’t fully comprehend the fact that it wouldn’t always matter what my GPA was for a certain semester or how many difficult classes I took, but rather how well I did in everything that I executed in my life. I know I will irrefutably have the need to perform more research like this in the future, and upon such occurrence I would most likely make sure I fully understood and knew about all my options before I came to any conclusions about them. I would also ensure that I’d have enough time to fully execute such a project to its fullest potential. In general however, this project and the information I found due to it in the end was very beneficial and helpful in furthering my knowledge of two universities that I was highly interested in.

Here they are:

1. A lucky number. Long before Jordan sanctified it, number 23 was lucky just because Dad said it was. He’d look for it everywhere. Forty years later, his grandchildren fill the lane on the break wearing the number he decided was theirs. Memories accrete around specific things.

2. A passion for tax-free growth.

3. About $3,000. An inheritance cuts your kids’ ambition in half, robs them of the satisfaction of making their own way, and keeps them from lessons worth learning. So you spend it.

4. A team to love. It’s a durable pleasure, best passed from father to child.

5. A team to hate. Despising a team–with all the venom you can muster and for no discernible reason–is a gift that gives life shape. Death to the Astros!

6. A will. And prearrange a really, really, really inexpensive funeral, too. Rule: Money is best spent on people who are alive.

7. Love of country. The quiet, grateful kind.

8. A decent carving knife.

9. A dented wheelbarrow. Associate yourself with stupid donkey work, as in moving this stuff that’s here, over there.

10. A fragment of inspiring verse. Memorized, so they’ll always have it when they need it.

11. Stories of your screwups. In the interest of less pedestal, more human, be sure they’ve heard tell of your greatest misses.

12. A holy book. Your copy of the Bible or Torah, if either has sustained you. Your Huck Finn or Heart of Darkness, if you’re of a literary cast. An atlas of the world around which a pilgrim is free to roam.

13. Enthusiasm for two movies: one stupid, one stirring. Say, Caddyshack and Braveheart.

14. A tattered road map. An old-fashioned, service-station map of a region you’ve traveled a lot with the family. It should have a few words scribbled on it, a couple of routes highlighted in yellow. Some of the crease lines should be torn from wear.

15. A baseless prejudice in favor of a particular make of car. Everybody knows that [fill in name of car manufacturer here] makes the best cars on the road. Period. End of story.

16. A family catchphrase. A brief yelp that captures your take on life and can invoke your spirit long after you’re dead. More in the manner of “Onward!” than “Life’s a bitch, then you die.”

17. Respect for baby steps. Most work gets done an inch at a time. Teach them to just break ground.

18. A coat. Barn jacket, tweed topcoat, or camo hunting shell, there’s something warm about the old man’s coat.

19. A patented shot. You put the hoop up in the driveway, didn’t you? Tell me you did, Dad. Name your unique fall-away jumper (The Dagger) or sky hook (Death from Above). Even memories require marketing.

20. U.S. savings bonds. They seem the very symbol of hope.

21. A handwritten description of a happy day. So what if you’re not Tolstoy? Scribble a few contented lines about that 16th of October and stash it in your desk for postdeath discovery.

22. A pleasure in people. Some get annoyed that people are so odd; lucky folks know that’s the fun part.

23. A maintenance jones. If they see you changing the oil in the driveway, they’ll learn to get more service from their stuff and have deeper friendships.

First of all…EVEN IF the iPod WERE the greatest music player EVER, it would NOT warrent all the insanity. No music player could ever be sooooo cool that it’s the only gift to giveaway as a prize(credit card companies etc…). People were willing to pay $400 plus dollars for something the size of a small bible in an age where you could get so many other players 1/4 of the size and prize and with more features and better looks. It’s everywhere…people who never had a music player got a $400 one because they just had to have it??

What was soo special?

It had no good looks; It was plain vanilla white and square. This HUGE $400 white box with a dail on it and no features compared competition. White headphones? Back in the day the idea was to HIDE the headphones so you don’t look like such a geek…being “wired” and all, so WHITE extra long headphones???

It was HUGE! My MiniDisc player from 1998 was smaller, better looking, cost less, came with leather case and a remote!!
Before the big iPod boom I was walking around with my iRiver mp3 player. Under $200, could record voice memos, could record sound from anything with a line-out jack. Could fit in my shirt pocket and I could change songs and volume WITHOUT even taking it out of my SHIRT pocket. Could take abuse like being dropped. Came WITH case, arm band, USB cable AND a neck strap!!

Enter the iPod, where people just open thier wallets and get robbed with a smile. They get less features and everything is an add on…so instead of $400, you actually pay like $500-$600!! That with all the accesories.

Not to mention it’s made by Apple…a computer company??? Why would people flock to buy something made a company who’s sopeciality is somthing else? Like flocking to by the new Toyota MP3 player or the Audiovox car.

They even sold one WITHOUT a screen and people STILL bought it!!

Are we all so oblivious? Packard Bell ring any BELLS? AOL maybe? And an MP3 player as a status symbol??? And why called mp3?
